Choir
Our mixed age/sex choir sings at the Parish Eucharist every Sunday during school term and also sings Choral Evensong on two or three Sunday evenings a month. Junior members (boys from 7 years until the voice changes, girls between 7 and 16, sometimes 18, years) learn to sing the treble line and are taught the basics of reading music. More mature women's voices are also welcome to sing either soprano or alto. Boys who have become proficient and confident as trebles are encouraged to continue singing on a lower voice part (alto, tenor or bass) when their voices begin to change.
Children should be at least 7 years of age to join the choir. Adults of any age are welcome to try for the choir, but should possess some degree of musical literacy. In the case of junior members, the Church sets aside a fund from the time of an individual's official admission as a full chorister which is presented to each chorister as a 'retirement' gift: to boys when they are no longer able to sing treble and to girls in the first summer following their sixteenth birthday.
Once juniors are full members they may also have the opportunity to earn some pocket money, especially during the summer months, by singing at weddings. Social events such as theatre trips, Christmas parties, or spring/summer outings are organised from time to time, depending upon circumstances. We are currently in urgent need of new members, especially on the soprano/treble, alto and bass lines. For further information contact the Organist and Choirmaster, Peter Smith on 020 8360 4599, or after a Church service.
